Angel Moroni BLACKENED… Poetic justice?
Along with all this miserable rain, we’ve had some pretty kick-ass thunderstorms, and on June 15, LIGHTNING struck the Angel Moroni on the top of the Oquirrh Mountain Temple.
I figured this would be BIG NEWS, but it wasn’t. It just sort of floated away, mostly ignored by Utahns, who would surely take a lightning struck on SOMEONE ELSE’S place of worship as a sign from God that they were bad, and the Mormons were good, good, good.
According to a Desperate News story:
LDS Church spokesman Scott Trotter said Monday the lightning strike discolored the Angel Moroni statue, but no other damage was reported.
“A work crew will re-gild the statue as soon as possible” he said in a prepared statement.
I’m taking this as a sign from God, since no one else seems to see the relevance of this particular lightning struck. Oh yeah, I’m GOING there. GOD does not want the Angel Moroni to be gold. GOD wants to the Angel Moroni to be black.
Hmm. Maybe half-black? A mixing of the races?

This is so cool, maybe its a sign, there are too many temples. What useful function do they perform anyway, just bored dumpy people doing things for dead people. “Yawn”, indeed.

It is just one more example of the symbols Mormons accept; the angel moroni, the CTR ring, the iron rod key chain, the tree of life necklace……
Oh, and don’t forget the symbols on the garments that take a special voodoo ritual to destroy.
Everything except the symbol of Christianity, which comes close to making them shrink and melt upon contact. Go figure.

Wonderful Article Natalie R. Collins, Are There Any Published Works You Rec on This Material/Subject rather??? I am LDS but went to a Lutheran-affiliated college. One day there were extremely high winds and the cross blew off the central chapel, and the thought didn’t even cross my mind that this might somehow be God pronouncing judgment on the Lutherans! Yet you seem to assume that every Mormon would naturally conclude this.
I think you are being too hard on Mormons in general.

Don’t be indentified as for or against anything. All ego and suffering. Drop the illusions be free. From a former Mormon who suffered and now is on a path to emotional and spiritual freedom. There is pain but question the thougths and undo the pain.
