From the Mormon Hatemail Bag….
Our new friend, Lauren, has a few words for YOU and me, Trappees. She reacted as many do, and to be honest, I GET the reaction. I do it myself. It’s human nature. But it serves me–and probably would help Lauren a lot–if she backed down, considered her words, did a little research and THEN commented. Then you don’t have to post a spate of comments like THIS, and look like a complete and total hot-headed moron. Oh, but hey, LAUREN, I finally noticed you. I fully own up to waiting a week before I acknowledged you, though. It tickled my funny bone.

Why is it so important to all of you to tear down and stomp on this religion? I have never seen this website until today and after looking through quite a few of the comments on here, both by the creator of this site and by visitors to it, I am curious as to WHY you spew so much hate and venom at this one particular religion? What satisfaction do you receive from being so ugly with your words? Maybe I am mistaken and you all hate other religions too?

It seems clear to me that “Victim Syndrome” runs rampant on this site. “Oh poor me! Those damn Mormons. They’re ruining my life. Whaaaa!” Would you like me to call the Whaaambulance for you?
This crap is no more justifiable than the Aryan Nations or the KKK. It’s founded in hate and intolerance. If all of you are soooo bothered by the Mormons, THEN DON’T BE AROUND THEM!!! If you can’t stand living in a “Mormon” community, THEN MOVE AWAY! To live in a place where you are outnumbered by another culture, and cry and bitch and whine about them is an attention getting measure. It’s stupid and immature.
The fact of the matter is that there are deviants in all religions, just as there are people in all religions who believe that their’s is true. That’s life. Ever heard of religious freedom?
Move on.

I am asking you with sincerity because I would truly like to know. It interests me that you do what you do.
(Yes, I realize that my comment has little to do with this particular blog posting. I just would like to be noticed and I figured that putting my question here would do that…. and I am not very good at being patient. Now, I might have considered ANSWERING Lauren’s last question, but after the whole “WHAMBULANCE” comment, I realized she must be about twelve, and really, what’s the point? Even 12-year-olds aren’t gonna be laughing at THAT joke. I think she read it on one of those Laffy Taffy wrappers. Or heard it on Sesame Street.
She calls ME stupid and immature, and precedes it with the WHAMBULANCE?! Your sincerity, Lauren, is drowned out by the wail of the WHAMBULANCE. Sorry, I can’t hear you over the noise.

I”M a Mormon to and i love it i was shocked when reading this i never knew he was suffering from cancer if you don’t mind list what kind and maybe try going to the chapel (church building) and go to sacrament
Fred, suffering from terminal loss of punctuation, is either a) 12-years-old and Lauren’s classmate or b) foreign speaking. Since he didn’t even know his own leader had cancer, I’m choosing to ignore his advice. Plus I’ve already been there, done that, got the CTR ring and moved on.
And then we have our VERY GOOD FRIEND Anonymous, who hangs around a LOT. This particular incarnation of Anonymous appears, based on the email address, to be a young female.

Why is it you think that ones religion has EVERYTHING to do with how they act? Does a persons upbringing have no say? and if that’s the case, then what religion do you belong to that says mormons are bad? Because no matter what religion you look at, they’re all going to have a few crazies in them. and if you’re so sick of the mormons, move out of Utah.
Where did I say that, A? And where did I say Mormons are bad? Furthermore, I totally agree with you. All religions have a few crazies in them, and there are aspects of ALL religions that appeal to the disturbed mind. However, I live in Utah, and I deal with Mormons, and I live in and around Mormons, and so that is what I write about. And the old “if you don’t like it leave?” statement is UTTER bullshit. If you don’t like what I have to say, YOU leave. No one made you come here and read this blog. And I’ll live Utah when and if I’m ready, on my own terms. I was born here, and I’ve raised my children here. And only by speaking up do things change, and I will CONTINUE to speak up. Surely you are aware what happens when people try to create a “perfect” society by getting rid of everyone who doesn’t believe like they do. Surely you’ve seen examples of what happens when you try to cull out all those you deem “unseemly” or “different.” Perhaps you missed that episode of The Simpsons. Well, I didn’t and I can tell you, it ain’t good, my friend, Anon.

Attention, Lauren and those of that ilk: I am not too fond of this joint for some good reasons, although I like for others. However, having now moved here and uprooted my family, I have to stay for a while. And, while I have nothing against Mormons (I like a lot of my neighbors and co-workers) I do have a problem with members of ANY religion (including my own), race or creed that seems to look down on or exclude others or try to control others’ behavior. And that happens a lot in Utah, among other places.
So, since it is still America, I’m going to sit here with my Barack Obama t-shirt on in southern Salt Lake County and whine my butt off. Just like certain Utah residents whine about the heathens who are ruining Zion, whether native or transplanted.
So there.

I just love living amongst you poor picked on Mormons. Allow me to explain. Out of one side of the Mormons mouth we hear “We welcome and embrace everyone as a creation from god.” and then out of the other side of the Mormon’s mouth we hear “If your not one of us we don’t want or need you.” “O and buy the way, because you do not belong to our group you are less of a human.” Now I grew up in Utah and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. The thing I find most interesting is that the more hostile the hard core Mormons become the more Mormons move out of Utah.
Personally I can hardly wait for the day all you poor bastards realize you have been lied to and you realize how much money it cost you to believe in a lie.
The thing I do not get though is how come Mormons think speaking out of both sides of their mouth serves them.
And as far as the famed Utah slogan “If you do not like here leave!’ is concerned as I recall the Mormons had to give up plural wives to gain state hood.
As far as people being angry at Mormons it all really boils down to what bigots you Mormons really are and how that particular behavior runs the exact 180 degrees of what the Mormons tell everyone your taught.

My hot-headedness, which I apologize for, was inappropriate. Like I said, I am not a patient person- it’s definitely a flaw, I know.
I appreciate the attention, thank you kindly. I must have been watching something other than The Simpsons that day. In fact, I think I was watching “The Kid” with my kids- hence the Whambulance reference. My questions still stand unanswered.
It seems that there is so much sarcasm and disdain here. It’s difficult to tell whether the issues are with the people who practice the religion or the theology itself. I am not a moron, I am also not a mindreader. I could do research all day but it still wouldn’t tell me what your actual questions and concerns are (minus the sarcasm). That is why I asked. I don’t profess to know it all, and I may not even know anything about the topics that are of concern here. Does that invalidate my curiosity? How do I know what to research if you don’t tell me what bothers you? I would just like you to say it to me straight. To reference another movie, I can handle the truth.

Hey Friend Lauren,
Thanks for weighing in. But truly, if you go back and read the archives, you will see that my TRUE issue with Mormonism lies in the theology. From there, it becomes a case by case basis. Some Mormons are complete idiots, and others are really nice, caring people. Sorta like everybody else.
And remember, this is not a host of people. This is a blog, or in other words, my Web log. It’s a journal or my musings of life living as an Ain’t in the land of Saints. Those who comment, or the Trappees, are laden with the burden only of their own comments, and can’t be judged by what I say or do.
Now, as to my problems with the LDS Church, how about you go back and read the archives and then come back with questions? Because I’m getting tired of repeating myself. If you can handle the truth, go read it, and then let’s chat…. And have us some POSTUM. Er, or decaf tea. I hate Postum.

Natalie makes a good point, it’s her site and she is patient enough to let us play with her, which I appreciate.
From my point of view, I’ve got a problem with the theology of the church. However, I’ve got problems with the theology of LOTS of religions, including, on a few points, my own. So I don’t look at that as a sticking point in my relationship with Mormons or my problem with Utah (governmentally, mostly). I guess an example of my problem is that I have a neighbor (for instance) who won’t speak to my family, but would up until the second he found out I wasn’t LDS, whereas I could care LESS what religion he is, so long as he is a honest, law-abiding citizen who cuts his lawn and doesn’t let his dog howl all night. In his case one out of three is bad - the lawn and dog are true issues. And I’m sure he loves the fact I have to drive 10 miles to buy wine. That could be true in Utah, anywhere in a dry county with a die-hard Baptist, or in Abu Dhabi with an intolerant Muslim. The problem is universal.
I like a lot of Mormons, including one of my co-workers who is in his mid-30s, has 7 kids, who are home-schooled by his apparently sainted wife, yet laughs when I refer to drinking beer and loves hard rock music, as I do. There’s lots of great people here. I may not understand them, or them me, but we can get along. It’s the intolerance that bugs me, not the differences.

I just discovered your blog and I’m having lots of fun reading it. I was raised in a large Mormon family, but one by one my siblings and parents have all had an experience that led us away from “the one true church.” I’ve recently submitted my resignation letter to the LDS Church and am anxiously awaiting the response letter that will let me know I have been officially removed from their records.
I just have one thing to say about Natalie. If she thinks that non-Mormons are a bunch of whiners and should move away from Utah, then I want to know why she’s reading your blog when she’s such a faithful Mormon? Your blog might be considered a “faith stealer” in the eyes of the church. She should turn her attention scriptures and Relief Society.
