Out of the Mouth of Prophets Comes.. Jesus Smith
There has been much ado about the fact that Mormons SEEM to worship Joseph Smith much more than Jesus Christ. Growing up, I will admit that there was MUCH more emphasis on Joseph Smith than there EVER was on Jesus.
The typical rote testimony went like this:
“I know this church is true. I know it’s the only true Church. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I love my mom and dad. Nameofjesuschristamen.”
Jesus never really figured in. I supposed that has changed some, but last year there was even a “Joseph Smith Nativity” on the BYU campus. No lie.
Nonetheless, Mormons get pretty riled up when you say they worship Joseph Smith instead of Jesus Christ.
So Gordon B. Hinckley’s little SLIP UP here, is kinda hilarious. Jesus has a last name, and it is Smith.

I want to know how Tom Brokaw kept his face straight? Because I’m cracking up. Even “Hinkey” had a straight face.

Well you know there is a lot of speculation that Smith was just about to declare himself the second coming when he was killed. There is, as well, all that secret stuff that only the 12 get to see. There you go.

With all of JS’s wives, that second coming was more like the 200th coming.

Hah! All his wives and non-wives to boot!
The surprising lack of charisma of modern-day Mormon leaders is astounding considering the amount of charisma Smith had.

OH, MY….how did they cover that one? or did they even bother?
Just a LITTLE slip of the tongue. What do you call that………a Freudian slip?

I understand that it has been said by some in the Mormon Church that Joseph Smith Jr. was, in fact, a descendant of Jesus’. Maybe that’s what Hinckley was thinking of.

Jesus and Joseph Smith were one in purpose and mind. This is obvious to True Believing Followers of Joseph Smith.

[…] If LDS people would find the idea of a Joseph Smith nativity heretical, then why did BYU do it? I have the PICTURES to prove it! […]
