Lying for the Lord
A shorter clip of the Robert Millet address to prospective missionaries–which I referenced a few posts ago–has now been posted on Youtube.com by Jim Huston. You go, Jim.
When the missionaries come knocking, people, beware. They have been taught NOT to answer your questions. They have also been taught that they are already superior to you, because they have “the truth.”
It is the ultimate arrogance to IGNORE SOMEONE’S HONEST question, and instead, answer what YOU think they need to know.
Do you really want to let them in?

Very arrogant. So what was the question? God’s priesthood holder, what bunk - and people fall for it hook, line, and Book of Mormon for it. Total stupidity.
It cracked me up that the lecture room was sparsely populated.

I don’t know how to embed the link, but I found this video interesting also. There is a stake president who says that the LDS church is presented as an “alternative” by missionaries. He neglects to mention the belief that it is the one true church.

I live in Boise and had my first pair of missionaries visit yesterday. Absolutely did not invite them in–just tried to be polite, said I wasn’t interested in learning more about “Jesus Christ’s prophet here on Earth” (or something like that–the one who gave the intro spiel obviously had it canned, because he rushed through it and I only understood about every third word), wished them a good afternoon. But it made me wonder–anyone have any good lines (firm yet polite) to use when those poor guys show up? At least the weather was nice for them yesterday. It was very interesting–everything I said in my nicely-worded declines, they had a pat response for. My guess is that Mormons have about the same conversion rates in Boise as in SLC–we have some serious LDS saturation up here already! Not in my area, though–yesterday was probably not a very productive day for winning souls for the two who knocked on my door.

I found this
“My duty as a member of the Council of the Twelve is to protect what is most unique about the LDS church, namely the authority of priesthood, testimony regarding the restoration of the gospel, and the divine mission of the Savior. Everything may be sacrificed in order to maintain the integrity of those essential facts. Thus, if Mormon Enigma reveals information that is detrimental to the reputation of Joseph Smith, then it is necessary to try to limit its influence and that of its authors.”
- Apostle Dallin Oaks, footnote 28, Inside the Mind of Joseph Smith: Psychobiography and the Book of Mormon, Introduction p. xliii
