Deception 101–From the Look Over There School of Missionary Work!
This video just FLOORED me. I mean downright jaw-dropping stunned me. And it should do the same to you.
Robert Millet, of the MoreGoodFoundation and professor of religious understanding at Brigham Young University, spoke to the Mission Prep Club about how to handle the tough anti-Mormon questions missionaries may face while on their missions or afterward.
If you don’t want to listen to the whole thing, scroll to around the 25-minute mark, and listen to him tell them to NOT answer the question asked, but rather to answer the questions they SHOULD have asked. It’s the LOOK OVER THERE school of Missionary Work at it’s FINEST!!!
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.
Do not answer the questions of polygamy. Do not talk about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. Don’t address Adam/God Doctrine, or Blood Atonement.
Instead, he suggests countering any question with the story of 14-year-old Joseph Smith and his humble beginnings (aside from the treasure seeking, peepstones, and marrying of teenage girls, of course).
“What did I just do?” Millet says. “I just answered the question he SHOULD have asked.”
Millet also says the issue isn’t Adam-God, Mountain Meadows Massacre, etc. the ISSUE is, “Was Joseph Smith called of God? The only way to find that out is by learning a little bit and praying a lot.”
Another Millet quote: “We never provide MEAT when milk will do.”
The only true church? How can you even BEGIN to claim this, when such deception is practiced to LURE people in. It’s like a big scam.
Common sense tells you to RESEARCH something before you invest in it. Even parents USUALLY tell you to make sure you have ALL the facts before you invest in something, or join something. My parents have said this time and time again, and yet they WHOLEHEARTEDLY believe in this fabrication, this scam.
Here is concrete proof that MISSIONARIES are taught to be deceptive and to practice avoidance when trying to get members to join. They do NOT tell you the truth until after you are a member, and even then it is watered down.
How can any person with a conscience condone this?
Call me gobsmacked today.
FYI, I would watch this video NOW, while you can. It will disappear shortly. As soon as word gets out, the Church WILL put a kibosh on it and it will NOT be accessible anymore. Mark my words.

Wow! I’m floored. Thank you for posting that Natalie.
September 20th, 2006 at 3:06 pm
I tried to watch, but the trademark LDS droning–how can anyone stand it? I couldn’t stand it when I was a true blue member and I sure as hell can’t stand it now.
I salute you Natalie for watching the whole thing! LOL
September 20th, 2006 at 3:16 pm
He just said (or droned rather) that the strong opposition to the Book of Mormon shows that the book is true! LOL I remember hearing that so much while in the church.
Ugg…this video is giving me flashbacks.
September 20th, 2006 at 3:44 pm
Well, several times I about went into a coma, but then he just kept saying things that WOKE ME UP. I mean, THEY ARE ADVOCATING DECEPTION. Do anything you can to get them in, and when they are IN TOO DEEP, then tell them the real truth. If even then!!
These are the tactics of cults, scam artists, etc.
We have been taught to search for truth. The “ONLY TRUE CHURCH” is deceptively luring people into membership. Do they have a different dictionary than the rest of the world?
September 20th, 2006 at 4:25 pm
Why give meat to converts, when they are obviously not at the same level as those born to the faith? Milk for the inferiour class, I say!
And a nice side serving of lies to go with it.
September 20th, 2006 at 4:49 pm
Ohmigosh - the pain is too much to endure.
You really listened to the WHOLE thing? It was painfully boring and arrogant. So out of curiousity do Mormons actually quote the Bible or only the Book of Mormon and the Pearl of Wisdom? I perked up at the opposition knows less than you do - gracious what trival drival and trumped up bs
September 20th, 2006 at 4:58 pm
Well, if you’re going to be appalled by something, you have to make sure you get the entire gist of it, so you don’t get accused of taking something OUT OF CONTEXT. And believe me, the context was ALL the same.
Lie to ‘em, suck ‘em in, then when you have ‘em tight, you can let them hear some of the other shit.
September 20th, 2006 at 5:55 pm
Thank God for the web.
Lots of people have been saved from that cult because of it.
I am surprised that the church hasn’t tried to take down or hack some of the web sites that have a lot of truthful info about Mormonism.

Let me just say this…I think only Utah “Mormons” think BYU is the be all end all of LDS life. It isn’t like this in Canada. We all pretty much think BYU is a bunch of whack jobs and I would never go there if you paid me to. This kind of thing isn’t really all that shocking considering the number of WACKOS that BYU produces at nauseum. However, this floored me too. “Defend the faith, defend the faith” OMG…give it up. I hope this guy gets fired. Actually I wouldn’t be sad if BYU got shut down all together. AS a side note, my husband says that if his mission president (he served in Japan) heard of someone teaching missionaries to not answer questions HONESTLY, CORRECTLY and DIRECTLY he would have ripped him a new one.

Too much. This is too much for me. I’m done. No more. Nat, I think you’re great but I got out of that fucking state to get away from these whack jobs. So, I can’t read this crap anymore. It makes me feel bad. It pisses me off and I really don’t give a shit about them so it’s kinda stupid to continue reading this stuff. For my mental health I have to say, “See Ya!”
So glad I moved,
Howy

Earl the Elder is coming with me!
September 21st, 2006 at 9:27 am
Well… Lieing for the Lord is stand business in the Church.
What I think is interesting is they are bringing up those subjects at all, which will perk some couriosity and lead some of the people who listen to these topics, away! When I was a member they would never bring up those topics! I had to get anti stuff to find out.

Kita,
I saved a copy, too, because as soon as the uproar starts it is GOING to disappear.

I wonder… if it was original posted by the grammar impairde More Good folk, can you guys post it to youtube after the fact? I mean, it’s not like youtube doesn’t have tons of copyrighted material all over the place, right? And it’s not as if these people aren’t actually representatives of the LDS church–they are–so no one would be misrepresenting anything if that is posted and reposted to youtube.
September 21st, 2006 at 1:44 pm
*chuckling* and of course, in making fun of the More Good idiocy, I posted a typo-riddled comment. There’s a law for that, I’m sure.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:46 am
Paraphrased from the last video: “Often times, I would find that a wonderful missionary had given the first lesson to a family and after the missionary left, the family went online and entered the word mormon into a search engine and find anti-mormon literature…as a consequence just when they were building that foundation, they would get such a negative feeling that, when the missionaries would come back, they would say they weren’t interested.”
Ummmm….so I guess that “negative feeling” wouldn’t be the burning in the bosom?
Really, what they’re saying is, we don’t want potential members to be informed.
September 23rd, 2006 at 5:07 pm
I think there was a reason he looked at you like you were brain dead.
BECAUSE YOU ARE.
MODERN REVELATION? ALL I have to do is read Revelation 22: 18 & 19 to know where God stands on Modern Revelation.
‘nuf said, before my head explodes!
September 23rd, 2006 at 7:30 pm
oh, not you, Natalie.
I just realized this post could look like I was talking to you. I’m sorry. I was refering to a comment the dumb man made in the video.
September 24th, 2006 at 9:53 am
Don’t worry, desi. I got your meaning.
September 25th, 2006 at 8:47 pm
I was doing some research today and came across this quote and thought it went very well with your post. By this definition, from their religious teachings, they are doing evil.
JOSEPH SMITH III
“Truth does not suffer from investigation; error alone flourishes in the dark; and resists examination. Its ways are ‘in the dark’ because it is of evil. The result of investigation is to bring out, to make plain, that the superiority of truth and right may appear, in contrast to the designs and weaknesses of wrong and error. Jesus said, ‘Everyone that doeth evil hateth the light … lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest that they are wrought in God.’

I had the missionaries tell me the same line about the “meat before the milk” thing… that line really sends chills down my spine! I only knew about most of what they believed through the Mormon Research Ministry and waltermartin.org. If it wasn’t for these two websites and this one as well… I never would have known the real LDS church. How could any church of God encourage their members/ missionaries to lie ? The answer is… a real church of God would NEVER promote any such thing. If anyone else is also talking to “the missionaries”, before you talk to them again (lol) go to WalterMartin.org and listen to the talk on “The Maze of Mormonism”. That was the best talk I’ve ever heard on the topic! It was funny and informative

oops, I meant to say the “milk before the meat ” thing

Really helpful information about the “True LDS church” Sure glad I don’t have a testamony!

Had you all listened to the entire recording, you might find that the objections stated here are fulfilling their expectations. The Mormon teachings rely on, and expect opposition, thereby ‘proving the religion as true’. Opposition is an expected part of being a Mormon church follower-member.
The Mormon church uses Christ’s example for an example of response (One of the few times they use the Bible.) Should we not do the same?
Titus 3:9
But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Hebrews 3:4
For every house is built by some man; but he that built all things is God.
The Revelation of John 22:17,18,19
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.
And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book.
And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.
Those who know God already have the victory!

I am a 50 year old father of two boys 12 and 16 years old. Since birth I have taught and shared the Holy Bible to them.
My boy’s mother (which I learned later) had a plan.
#1 Divorce me #2 Get pregnate to a married man of about 30 years #3 Get married to this man that attends the local Mormon church #4 Remove all teachings of the Holy Bible #5 Remove me from there lives little by little.
This process has been goin on for about 4 years, includes 2 lawyers and a lot of lies and one threat of having my oldest son testify his desire to serve the Mormon church over spending time with me. This was regarding contempt of court charges I filed when my son was kept from me for 1 year. I chose not to pursue, for it was not my desire to be responsible to put that in my sons thought of memory,
After watching this vidio, I diffenently see the comparison of confusion and the lack of common sense that my son displays.
I have went through many stages of anger, I don’t get to see my oldest son much(Mormon activities have become priority and have been informed that when my youngest son becomes of age the same thing will happen).
Please, if there is any body out there……

First, “Milk before meat” is a way of saying ‘teach what they are prepared to hear.’ The point is not in deceiving, but in building up. I have heard many try to call the church any sort of name, but deceiver is definitely the most common. We don’t hide from the past, but we don’t share details before the most important facts are shared. Say you’re building a house, the roof does little or no good unless it’s going onto walls that have already been built. The comment about only finding ‘the truth’ through anti-mormon literature also is a sad commentary. Such literature almost invariably exaggerates a small point until you’re looking at it under a clouded microscope. You think you see flaws, but don’t realize it’s in the lens, and not the object. As far as the modern revelation, Rev 22:18-19 was written to close the Book of Revelation. (Which says ‘if any man add . . .’ if God wants to continue speaking, this has not closed that avenue, and who are we to stop Him?) The Bible in it’s present form ends with this Book, as you know, but the Bible itself was itself assembled by a counsel, not by an apostle or prophet, and thus while the original writing was inspired of God, the compilation was done by men, and they left out a good number of books and epistles. I was raised Baptist, and am a convert to the church. I am still learning every day, because of my personal commitment to studying the scriptures, ALL the scriptures. We do not teach only the Book of Mormon, but we do focus on the Book of Mormon, because it is the most correct of ancient scripture, having been translated only once, and by an inspired translator, unlike the Bible (wonderful as it is) which has been translated time and again, by scholars, not prophets. Translation is not an exact science. Try translating expressions and metaphors into other languages, and see how many people understand you. That’s ONE translation, and no transcriptions. The early books of the Bible had to be transcribed from the originals, then copies, through millenia, and certain parts would become difficult to make out, and transcribers would have have to guess, even in the same language, long before the translating scholars even got ahold of the materials. The Bible is still a wonderful library, with many truths to be found, but some points have been lost to the ages, and the Book of Mormon can help to clarify those points.
Finally, the teachings do not require opposition in the form you describe, but sincere prayer. I had a firm testimony before I served a mission, and none trying to dissuade me from such. The opposition I did face was to my standards, such as people advocating the concept of sex outside of marriage, using the Lord’s name in vain, and other such acts contrary not just to the teachings of the ‘terrible Mormon church’ as so many seem to think of it, but to the teachings of the Bible, as well, which contains a portion of those teachings that you seem to detest so much.
When Moses led Israel, the people were unprepared for the higher law, and asked Moses to obtain the Lord’s words, as they were too afraid to receive them personally. (Deut 5:22-27) Thus they were given a lesser law, milk, because they weren’t ready for meat.
When a child is small, you tell them not to touch the stove, for it will burn them. When they are old enough, you teach them to cook, and such a rule is foolish.

Sorry Cal. Though joe et al managed to find their way to the apocrypha to plagiarize some names, they clearly did know what those italics were for in the KJV bible. They were there to let people know that the translators had added a word to make the sentences comprehendable in translating from greek to english. Unfortunately, when Joe plagiarized those big chuncks of the KJV bible, he left those words in. In other words, yes, the KJV translators added some words here and there so the text would make sense. Then when Smith “translated” the golden plates “through the power of god” (and of course his big-ass rock laden hat), word-for-word, with the scribe reading back as they went to confirm, he somehow managed to write the same words that the KJV translators added. He translated words that were not there, could not have been there, on the plates he was transating, words on plates that were created over 2,000 years before those sloppy KJV translators added, checked, and rechecked their translation with clarifying words (in italics).
Maybe if you guys italicize the entire BOM I will read it again…or not. Or maybe God decided he liked the way the KJV was worded better than his own words (or the nicean version, or whatever you want to believe) and decided to reveal THAT version to Joe to plagiarize instead of the Hebrew version (there was no Greek version (aka the Septaugint) when Mormon/Moroni wrote on the plates.) Hmmm, if I’m god, I’m going with MY version…but then I’d also have a real live bonafide hell to go with it. Guess that’s just me.

Why is it so important to all of you to tear down and stomp on this religion? I have never seen this website until today and after looking through quite a few of the comments on here, both by the creator of this site and by visitors to it, I am curious as to WHY you spew so much hate and venom at this one particular religion? What satisfaction do you receive from being so ugly with your words? Maybe I am mistaken and you all hate other religions too?
